The Red Cross Society of China is a unified Red Cross organization of The People’s Republic of China, a social relief group engaged in humanitarian work, and an important member of the International Red Cross movement. The purpose of the Red Cross Society of China is to protect human life and health, safeguard human dignity, carry forward humanitarian spirit and promote the cause of peace and progress.
The Red Cross Society of China was founded in 1904. After its establishment, the Red Cross Society of China has been engaged in activities of rescuing refugees, rescuing wounded soldiers and disaster victims. It has actively worked to alleviate the suffering of people from wars and natural disasters, and has participated in international humanitarian relief activities. After the founding of new China, the Red Cross Society of China carried out a consultative reorganization in 1950. Prime Minister Zhou Enlai personally presided over and revised The Constitution of the Red Cross Society of China. In 1952, the Red Cross Society of China resumed its legal seat in the International Red Cross movement.
For a long time, the Red Cross Society of China abides by the Constitution and laws, abides by the basic principles of the International Red Cross movement, conscientiously performs its statutory duties in accordance with the Geneva Conventions and the additional protocols in which China Participated, and gives full play to its role as a government assistant in the field of humanity. It has made important contributions to China’s economic and social development and has become an important force and essence in the construction of socialist harmonious society, new force of the construction of divine civilization and an important channel of non-governmental diplomacy.
